How to Clean Canvas Tent
A canvas tent is a great option for those who enjoy camping. They are durable and easy to set up, which makes them ideal for both novice and experienced campers alike.
Canvas tents are also relatively easy to keep clean. However, over time, if you've ever had a canvas tent you will know, they can start to develop a musty smell.
Canvas tent cleaning doesn't have to be tough. Here are a few tips on how to keep your tent smelling fresh all season long.
Cleaning the Outside of Your Tent
The first step is to sweep the inside and outside of your tent with a soft bristle brush. This will remove any dirt, dust, or debris that has accumulated on the surface of the tent.
Next, you will want to spot clean any areas that seem particularly dirty or stained. To do this, you can make a cleaning solution by mixing one part warm water with one part vinegar in a spray bottle. Apply the solution to the stained areas with a clean cloth and then wipe away with a damp cloth.
For tougher stains an inside family tip is to try hair shampoo with warm water and a soft brush to spot clean your tent inside or outside. We have found it effective to remove grass stains, blood and other nasty stains. But use shampoo sparingly, its hard to remove excess shampoo ... try diluting 10:1 (10 parts water to 1 part shampoo, it really doesn't take very much shampoo).
It is okay to get your tent wet, just be certain to thoroughly dry your tent before packing it away.
Cleaning the Inside of Your Tent
Remove all of your belongings from the inside of the tent and shake out any blankets or sleeping bags.
Vacuum the floor and walls of the tent with the brush attachment to remove any dirt or sand that may have gotten tracked inside.
Then, wipe down all surfaces with a damp cloth. If there are any stains remaining, you can treat them with the vinegar solution described above.
Finally, clean canvas tents need to be completely dried before packing them away. Dry out the tent by opening all of the doors and windows. Let it sit for at least 30 minutes, you want it to be completely dry, before putting your belongings back inside or packing it away.
By following these simple steps for canvas tent cleaning, you can keep your canvas tent fresh, clean and ready to use for years and years.
